INTRODUCTION

What is freedom of expression? Do you think you are free to express yourself?  How far can we go in freely criticizing someone or something without being involved in hate speech?

In countries with democratic traditions, freedom of expression is something you are born with. On the other hand, people coming from illiberal countries crave it desperately.

Freedom of expression is a basic human need, deriving from the social nature of the human kind. The first humans interacted with each other through a rudimentary language that they needed in order to survive. People cannot exist without talking to each other and expressing their thoughts. In modern society, free expression is a basic element of democracy. Without it, you cannot call a society free and liberal. It also contributes to social and economic growth.

The right to free speech is a human right, which makes part of international human rights treaties and national constitutions. Without it, a country’s leaders do not face opposing opinions of its citizens and political parties.

In this blog you will see how freedom of expression is currently working in different geographic areas, cultural  and religious realities, offline as well as online.
